Confessions of a Book Addict
My name is Dayla F.M. and I'm a writer in the works. While writing is my first love, reading is a close second. I've spent most of my life reading. Young Adult, Literary Fiction, Suspense, Horror, Post-apocalyptic, Chick Literature, Romance, Mystery, Mythology. I've read a bit of everything.
Follow me as I FINALLY write honestly about the books I'm currently reading. I'm writing this mostly too because I'm hoping to accomplish my goal of reading ONE HUNDRED books this year (2012-2013). Just watch and see me comment on these books. I'll let you know what's worth reading, what's worth putting on the sidelines, and what you shouldn't even attempt.
I'm ready for this year, how about you? I'm also in the process of writing my first novel (SCARY!)
Currently Reading: Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts
Currently Reading: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
Any pictures that I post are not mine (unless I state otherwise). I also don't do promotions because I want to keep my blog as much about books, writing, and authors (and my experiences with all three) as possible, so please don't ask, I will delete messages asking me to promote and ignore such requests, sorry!

When you have mastered numbers, you will in fact no longer be reading numbers,
any more than you read words when reading books. You will be reading meanings.

While thoughts exist, words are alive and literature becomes an escape, not from, but into living.

I’ve been tagged, but I’m posting these without tagging or else it will be an endless thing! :P
1. What book do you plan on reading next?
I’m actually going to read The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
2. What’s your favorite genre to read?
I’m a sucker for romantic dramas in the Young Adult category
3. What are your thoughts on e-readers?
Okay, I know that this is a huge controversial thing in the book community on tumblr, but I won’t lie, I have a Sony e-reader and I love it. Now, it doesn’t mean that I don’t have a massive collection of novels (you can see a picture of my library somewhere on this blog), it just means that I also have a huge collection of ebooks because they are cheaper when I can’t afford my expensive habit.
4. Who’s your favorite author?
Such a hard question! Probably Sarah Dessen, J.K. Rowling, Sophie Kinsella, and as of late, Veronica Roth.
5. Which book always cheers you up?
Can You Keep a Secret? By Sophie Kinsella. I’ve read it so many times, but I absolutely love that novel!
6. Do you prefer buying books or borrowing them?
Buying. I’ve never been that into borrowing books from people.
7. What are three books you wish would be turned into movies?
Divergent, by Veronica Roth, Can You Keep a Secret?, by Sophie Kinsella, and The Truth About Forever, by Sarah Dessen
8. Do you have any unique reading habits? (i.e a favorite spot)
Lately I’ve found myself curling up on the couch a lot with a snack. Of course, with the television off and the quiet of an empty house.
9. What’s the last movie you watched?
Um, I watched a bit of Jaws with my mom
10. Do you have any magazines you read regularly?
I used to read Cosmopolitan A LOT, but I don’t really read magazines now. (I have like 5 issues of Cosmo I haven’t read yet because I had a subscription).
11. How many unread books do you own?
Aha, in my library I have hundreds, on my computer/e-reader I have over a thousand.
12. What book/story do you remember enjoying most as a child?
Matilda, by Roald Dahl… before Harry Potter, of course.
13. Were you a reader as a child or did you grow into it as an adult?
Apparently, I was SUCH a huge reader as a kid, my uncle urged others in my family to buy me classics. So I read various Nancy Drew novels when I was like 9, and Great Expectations. I was mostly into Archie comics though and as far as I can remember, I’ve always been a reader.
14. If you could pick one book, movie, comic, or TV show to place yourself inside of, which would it be?
I would probably want to be in Harry Potter of course. To be able to use magic (even with the limits of being a student) would be pretty awesome!
15. Do you think that fanfiction is a violation of the original author’s rights? Or do you think it’s a chance for readers to give the characters new life?
I think fanfiction offers an outlet for young writers (and older ones as well). Authors write novels for us, the readers, to enjoy and experience in our own way. Writing fanfiction is an act of showing how we are affected by the author’s original work.
16. Will you watch a new movie/TV show before you’ve read the book?
I really, really try not to.
17. Is there a book or specific type of literature that you found challenging to read and understand?
I’m not a huge fan of the kind of adult fiction that explores the philosophy of life and tries to give you some intense meaning. Like, I can never enjoy Faulkner, for example, because I would find his books incredibly boring and difficult to read. (I had to attempt reading As I Lay Dying for a class and now it sits unread on my shelf)
18. If you had a child (or if you do right now), what one book would you give to them?
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. To be honest, I’d probably want to read it to him/her just so I can experience it all over again with them.
19. What is the most inspirational book that you have ever read?
Twilight…. Just kidding!
Um, probably anything by Sarah Dessen because she’s inspired me so many times.
20. Are there certain genres of literature that you just don’t really read?
YES. I’m not huge on religious texts or philosophical literature. Too stuffy and boring.
21. What do you think about the idea that some people believe that you should only read literary works which “challenge” you?
I think that’s bullshit. I saw a comment on one of my Young Adult pictures that I posted (someone reblogged it and attacked Young Adult literature) about how YA isn’t even close to Adult fiction because it is poorly written, repetitive, and stupid, which I think is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. I think the fact that someone reads should be good enough. Who are we to judge what others read? Why do we have to decide whether someone else is a good reader because of the books s/he chooses to read?
We don’t have to decide and people who think of themselves above others who don’t read Tolstoy, one of the Bronte sisters, Dostoyevsky, or Victor Hugo (for example) can stuff it.
22. I know you read, but do you ever think about being an author?
Being an author is my career choice. Writing is my first love and the only thing I regret is not figuring it out until I entered university (even though all the signs that I was going to be a writer were right in front of me).
Happy reading!
